More bad press for pit bulls. On January 17, a 6-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl were headed to their bus stop in an Atlanta neighborhood.
Tragically, a pit bull and a border collie attacked the children, the boy, Logan Braatz, was killed, and the girl, Syari Sanders, was injured.
The Associate Press reported that the police shot and killed one of the dogs. The dog’s owner, Cameron Tucker, was arrested.
Neighbors heard the children’s screams and ran out to help. Shamonte Clayton grabbed her gun and was able to scare off one of the dogs.
She saw Logan laying on the grass, unconscious. She picked him up. His mom just sat there crying, there was nothing they could do.
Syari had been badly mauled but is in stable condition. F.L. Stanton Elementary School responded to the tragedy by assembling a crisis team.
The team will provide staff and students counseling during this sad team. On social media, some are calling the dogs ‘killing machines, ’ and many are blaming the owner.
Seems to me that the neighborhood knew the dogs were an issue – why were children allowed to go to the bus stop without any adults nearby?
I would never send my 5-year-old out early in the morning to wait for the bus alone. I would watch him, walk with him, or make sure an adult was around.
Dogs raised well are not killing machines. If you are not a responsible pet owner, your dogs will be a menace.
