35-year-old water protector Damjan Nedelkovski found dead in the Cannonball River in North Dakota

The body of Damjan Nedelkovski was found in the Cannonball River on April 9, 2017

  • Nedelkovski was last heard from on October 29, 2016

  • On November 16, 2016, Nedelkovski’s stepbrother reported him missing

  • Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier said fould play was not suspected

  • Nedelkovski’s rental car was impounded from Oceti Sakowin camp on February 23 following the area being cleared

  • Family of Nedelkovski are looking for anyone who has any information about the months surrounding his death

On April 9, at roughly 11:30 am, a fisherman found the body of Damjan Nedelkovski in the Cannonball River months after campsites against the Dakota Access Pipeline had been cleared.
Friends and family say the last time they had contact with Nedelkovski was on October 29, 2016. Morton County Sheriff’s Department was able to identify Nedelkovski from a Republic of Macedonia identification card found on his person.
Nedelkovski’s stepbrother filed a missing persons report in Glendale, California, on November 16, 2016. He was said to have been at the No DAPL camps.

Nedelkovski Was Pulled Over On October 28, 2016 In South Dakota

On October 28, 2016, Nedelkovski was pulled over in South Dakota for speeding. It was during that stop Nedelkovski said he was heading to the campsites in North Dakota.
The vehicle Nedelkovski rented was said to have been located and impounded from the Oceti Sakowin campsite when it was cleared on February 23, 2017.
While an official cause of death is still pending, Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier said that foul play was not suspected. Kirchmeier speculated that the 37-year-old possibly fell through thin ice when the weather got warmer.
Nedelkovski was found wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans. Kirchmeier was not sure how long Nedekovski had been in the water and stated the death could have happened anytime between October 29, and the April 9 discovery of the body.

Nedelkovski’s Loved Ones Are Still Looking For Answers

Friends and family are now looking for any information anyone may have on Nedelkovski during his time missing. Even if his death was accidental, his loved ones would like to try and fill some of the months long gap before his body was found. Information can be sent to mnedelkovski777@gmail.com.
